High School Reunion...Getting Old!

Well, as many of you probably now know, because it's posted on Roger's website, I recently attended my 20 year high school reunion. Now that the secret's out, I confess...I'm old. As I was searching for an outfit to wear to impress my old school buds, I looked and looked for a knockout outfit to wear to prove to the world of Perry High School that I, Jackie Ware, former dork/geek/music nerd, was now worthy of all praise and complements. As it turns out, the whole process of finding something to wear was tough. I live in "Chambana" (Champaign/Urbana), in the heart of corn country, so, you can imagine that the clothing options are limited here. I believe that I went to just about every store that would have nice dresses but, they all looked like something that a corn-raised, corn-fed, corn-lovin' farmer's wife would wear. Not that there's anything wrong with farmer's wives, I've met some pretty nice ones. It's just that I'm not ready to slide into that type of attire just yet. While standing in a mall department store, I was surrounded by this evil, yet reality presenting voice that said "You're OLD." I was too old to wear midriff baring teeny bopper clothes and too young to wear anything else. As I listened to the music in the store, I sunk even lower into the realization that I'm old. Not ancient, but too old to be hip, techno saavy, and into the latest trends. I finally left the mall, deflated, and made my way to the outlet mall. Fortunately, Casual Corner (here's a nice plug for their store) exists. I found just the right outfit. A simple shawl-collered sweater and a-line skirt. Funny, it's just what I would typically pick out to wear for an interview or important meeting. Fairly businesslike, but flattering.

Now that the outfit was purchased, I made my way to Ohio and the reunion. I'll keep you all waiting anxiously for my next installment...The Reunion...
